It’s increasingly clear to me that any band, Radiohead included, can provide more than just music in someone’s day. Radiohead is a muse not only for musicians — any fan can draw inspiration from the band, into many areas of life. Us hardcore ones admire them as people, their beliefs and personalities, and end up aspiring to be like them. For New Year’s resolutions, this admiration can be their reasoning behind them, or help push you toward them.
Read more. Thom Yorke & co. are well-read men. Colin Greenwood majored in English, no surprise there. Choose your reading material from this grand list of books that have inspired Radiohead’s music. Don’t know what you like yet? Hit up the library and borrow a book from every major genre. Do it even if you’re a staunch high fantasy reader – you never know what else you’ll like. Learn to play an instrument. Be it guitar, piano, or the ondes Martenot (we’ve all got one kicking around) learning something new makes you feel good about yourself. Remember though, that it’s not a competition – you don’t have to be Jonny Greenwood by any means.
Develop your sense of style. You can learn a lot from the way the band dresses. Ed knows how to rock a scarf, and Jonny has that suit and t-shirt combo down. They get adventurous without being loud and outrageous. Take Phil for example: He wore a purple shirt… and it worked for him! As for Thom, he may have worn a questionable headband, but then he wears the classiest coat ever. They all recovered from the 90s and figured out how to dress for their shape. Unique items are picked out, and they balance them well in an outfit. Take inspiration from them.
Be more environmentally-friendly. Thom Yorke is very concerned about global warming and for good reason. Do the basic things you learn in school like recycling everything possible, blowdrying your hands, and taking the bus whenever you can. If your heart really gets into it, read up on organizations dedicated to it and see where that takes you.
Embrace your appearance. Thom Yorke has shown some self-consciousness about his physical appearance in the past, but overall, this man seems fine with having a wonky eye and crooked mouth, and standing at 5’5” or so. Obviously, getting this confidence is easier said than done, and you probably believe that “improving” your looks will make you happy. I’ll say this anyway because one day you’ll see it’s true: No matter how much mascara you layer on, what colour you dye your hair, or how much weight you lose… if you’re self-conscious in the first place, that insecurity will persist. The problem isn’t the thickness of your thighs, it’s that you place your self-worth on them. Once one flaw is gone, you’ll move on to another.
Thom Yorke works with what he has, and shows that talent and character trumps conventional beauty. His songwriting abilities, to him and everyone else, are undoubtedly more meaningful than the angle of his cheekbones. Conclusion: Beauty is great, but kindness, respect, open-mindedness, and a hundred other things are more valuable qualities for a person to possess. There are many ways to be beautiful.
Aproveitando esse lindo post de naawkwe, eu desejo um FELIZ ANO NOVO A TODOS NÓS! Espero continuar com vocês ao longo do ano, apreciando toda a maravilha que é Thom Yorke! (=
